Guitarist Roy Louis is a native born of the Caribbean Island Curacao, the Netherlands. In early 1972 he moved with his brother Elmer Louis to Amsterdam where they formed together with former drummer/singer and recording artist Guillermo Marchena, the band “SHIELD“.

Throughout the 1975, Roy was noticed by well established producers such as Sylvester Levay, Ralf Siegel, Keith Forsey and jazz musicians such as Hannes Beckmann, Dusko Goykovich, Peter Herbolzheimer as well as WEA Recording Artist and Grammy Nominee Klaus Doldinger as the new young guitarist in Germany. It was Grammy Winner Joe Gallardo who realised that besides his amazing guitar skills, Roy is an outstanding electric bassist when he was just about to Record his first European Latin Jazz album LATINO BLUE.

In 1976, Roy and Elmer Louis joined the ranks of Europe’s best known Jazz Fusion group of the 70s PASSPORT of KLAUS DOLDINGER, that included notable members as Curt Cress, Kristian Schultze and Wolfgang Schmid, followed by local and international tours organised by Fritz Rau's prestigious Agency LIPMANN & RAU. The worldwide release of PASSPORT's Best Selling Albums on WEA, IGUACU and SKY BLUE (ATARAXIA) were a big success on both side of the continent Europe and the U.S. These albums reached the U.S.BILLBOARD -Charts. The DOWNBEAT Jazz Magazine wrote: PASSPORT, "the Answer to WEATHER REPORT".

In early 1979, Roy Louis departed from the supergroup PASSPORT and formed together with former colleagues, Wolfgang Schmid, Guillermo Marchena, Elmer Louis, Bobby Stern and Geoff Stradling the group HEAD HEART and HANDS, to persue his own musical dreams and artistic directions. The band soon became another Jazz Fusion Explosion which featured many compositions written by Roy. This led to the Metronome Record release of HEAD HEART and HANDS, FLOR DI ANGLO on Mood Records and Blue Flame for THE BEST OF HEAD HEART and HANDS.

In 1997, Roy and Elmer received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the MUSIC ASSOCIATION of Curacao on the 35th Anniversary Concert, at Jan Thiel.
